As a food forest company we make it easy for you: Simply call us and order a soil sampling box and send it back to us once you have filled it with samples. What is a food forest design?
In a food forest design we mimic nature and combine all types of plants in an intelligent, self-supporting eco-system. You will easily see 50 different species being planted in the same food forest.
How long does it take to implement?
Like everything in regenerative agriculture, food forest project also need their time, even with a professional food forest company. Our designs help speed up the process, but you need to calculate at least one month from the first contact to putting the first plants into the ground. After that, it takes approximately 3 to 5 years for the ecosystem to be established and flourishing.
What’s the minimum size for a food forest project?
When it comes to planting a new food forest, no project is too small. Having said that, in terms of cost / benefit we like to give an indication that a space of around 300 m² is a good size to start a food forest with us.
Can I grow a food forest with little water?
We have solutions for all micro-climate scenarios. Landscape regeneration is even possible in the desert… it might just take much longer. Much depends on the quality of your soil and precipitation and humidity values. If you have a piece of land where water is scarce, then we can offer ways to do temporary irrigation, increase water harvesting and to make a food forest design that is drought resistant.

Yes. Depending on the nature of your project we can support you remotely or on-site. Our team of experts has local knowledge and can work in your climate- and hardiness region.

What’s in the word “ESSWALD”?
Esswald is a word from the Germanic region. It’s a new creation composed of the words
ESSEN (= to eat, or also food) and WALD (= forest). So combined in the word ESSWALD, it means “edible forest”. It’s in our DNA!
